Since I'm not sleeping anyway, here's the #story a guy at an oil change place told me about his teenage car:

He had "fuck you money" (for a teenager) from working construction. He poured thousands into a #car that had significant problems.

It was a 1974 #Chevy Impala. His grandfather (I think) bought it new in 1973, then it was driven by a parade of half a dozen or more family members until it was finally given to him in the early 2000s. The interior was a mess--white leather, with a white dash (he says only 3 were ever made like this; it was a prototype), all yellowed, cracked, stained, and torn. He put purple shag carpeting on the floors, dash, and ceiling. Got wild-colored seat covers. Put a new 350 Chevy small block (I think) engine in it, dropped it to a few inches above the pavement, and put nearly drag race rear wheels & tires on it. Got a welded-chain steering wheel, oversized die gear shift, and a bunch of other doodads.

Meanwhile, the trunk was held together from the inside with stolen road signs screwed into what was left of the rusted-out body, there were holes in the cabin (he said when it snowed, snow got in his face while driving), it kind of smelled weird, and the exterior was still "baby shit green" with big, visible rust areas.

The car was fast and powerful, and he loved it. He had a pickup that was perfectly usable, but he loved this car. He drove it whenever he could. It finally died one day on snowy, icy roads: something unexpected happened in traffic and he remembers making the decision to counter-steer as the massive boat of a car went into a spin. He controlled the spin but ran into a telephone pole. The car crumpled and broke in half.
