The UK government arresting 166 citizens (and counting) for standing in public with hand-drawn signs opposing #genocide, #starvation, #extermination, #ForcedDisplacement and other #CrimesAgainstHumanity: "This is terrorism!"

This statement is, of course, correct.

This *is* indeed a tactic of terror, deploying violence and the threat of violence against civilians to pursue a political agenda through fear. However, it is not the dignified grandmothers, retired magistrates, and scores of other ordinary people courageously upholding the longstanding and noble tradition of #nonviolent #DirectAction for social justice who are engaging in #terrorism.

@DoomsdaysCW When BBC articles consistently report on this slaughter without providing their audience any reference to the settled judgements of #InternationalLaw on the matter, or to the settled patterns of #IDF mendacity and criminality, or the context of #occupation, #apartheid, #MassStarvation and #ForcedDisplacement, how is this not subtly normalising violence against Palestinians?

When the BBC provides* each Israeli victim of Palestinian violence (overwhelmingly active combatants) thirty-three times more coverage than each Palestinian victim of Israeli violence (overwhelmingly non-combatants), when it frames the occupied as the aggressor, when it completely fails to mention the extensive public statements by senior Israeli government and military figures that are prima facie incitements to #genocide and/or #EthnicCleansing, when the BBC displays a clear pattern of humanising Israeli victims in ways not (generally) extended to Palestine victims, then how is the BBC coverage as a whole not an implicit endorsement of violence?

*According to a recent detailed and comprehensive study of BBC coverage of the violence in Palestine since 7th Oct 2023 by the UK's Centre for Media Monitoring, summarised here: jonathancook.substack.com/p/wh

#Palestine / Hidden displacement: 42,000 Palestinians forced from occupied West Bank homes while 'Israeli public remains inaware'

Israeli physician Bari Danino reports from #Tulkarm that approximately 42,000 Palestinians have been displaced from their homes in West Bank refugee camps in recent months - 22,000 from Tulkarm and Nur al-Shams camps, and 20,000 from Jenin.

Danino observes that "less than an hour's drive from Tel Aviv" and "without the Israeli public being aware," military operations are executing what he describes as "goal No. 5 of the Gaza war: concentration and movement of population." His medical team treated 449 patients, mostly displaced persons lacking basic medications left in abandoned homes.

[…] “Attempts by some residents to return to their homes and retrieve personal belongings have become dangerous operations. They report that soldiers fired even in cases where families were notified about plans to demolish the house and tried to save a few more items. The patients I met are not hungry for bread, but they are hungry for medical care. They come seeking simple pain relievers and their regular medications, which they left behind in their abandoned [forced to abandon, OM] homes."

Ongoing home demolitions and infrastructure destruction continue in the northeastern neighborhood while military drones maintain surveillance overhead.
