It's only time, now,
before the bushes blossom,
thick with blueberries
Daily Haiku Prompt for 2 June: sparrow (South)
cold alarm goes off –
same time as usual I'm
up at sparrow-fart

Notes
sparrow-fart = very early in the morning, daybreak
Daily Haiku Prompt for 2 June: berry (North)
Summer's late return
from foraging for berries,
her lips empurpled
wild blueberries
colouring the mountainside
foraging black bears

A held breath of time
everything stops then exhales
as the first snow falls.

Garden year - I watch
the hydrangea blossom
as it comes and goes

waxwings and catbirds
strip the Juneberry –
summer circles then settles

#Iowa
* My "yard" in NE Iowa is all native plants; the difference between "woods" and "house" is blurry. I remember hydrangeas from my childhood in town and thought of those big flowers as a sign that summer was on the way. I have different markers now, but I notice them just the same.

Daily Haiku Prompt for 1 June: winter grove (South)
random boles stuck in
rough heaps of leafy debris
from a passing storm
Daily Haiku Prompt for 1 June: hydrangea (North)
in soft grey daylight
blue, pink, white petals gather
dewy drizzled rain
Daily Haiku Prompt for 31 May: first snow (South)
first snow on the peaks
forms white shapes above the sky,
just beyond my grasp

Notes
Verbum sapienti sat est / Verbum sap. (Latin) = a word to the wise is sufficient
Cold mist shrouds tree ferns,
Mountain ash somewhere above.
Earth, air, and wonder.
