Radical Anthropology<p>Really nice piece on the misuse or contradictory use -- contranym -- of <a href="https://c.im/tags/performative" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>performative</span></a></p><p>'Performative' means an utterance or speech act which effects change in the world. Like the words 'I do' spoken in context of wedding. Before saying it, you were not married, then you were. Nothing happened but everything changed! </p><p>💯 Annoying that the way it's used now undermines speech act theory, not to mention gender performativity. </p><p><a href="https://scatter.wordpress.com/2025/05/19/performative-has-become-a-contranym/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">scatter.wordpress.com/2025/05/</span><span class="invisible">19/performative-has-become-a-contranym/</span></a></p>
