You’re constantly going to be unpacking layers and layers of the onion, figuring out new ways to be you.
New #introduction for my new Mastodon home:
Hi, I'm Emily! I'm interested in the human side of the web—using it to connect, not consume.
Among other things, I'm...
— an #artist, #activist, #writer, educator, speaker
— #ActuallyAutistic #AUDHD (#Autistic with an #ADHD booster pack )
— seeking community (human-to-human stuff!)
— excited (and terrified!) to be here
I have an "okay enough" #website that would be *thrilled* to see you (it has BIG feelings, like me!): https://fromemily.com
In building your autism-positive life, start with self-compassion.
Nothing fancy. No tricks or techniques required.
When you're mad at yourself for being uncharacteristically lethargic and then realize you forgot to have lunch.

Interesting video on always feeling tired and some strategies that worked for this guy. This is something I've been trying to work on myself... definitely going to try these strategies.
I've been paying closer attention to how I stim lately, and I've noticed I often stim with my toes and legs, and sometimes my face.
I wiggle or twiddle my toes, I bounce my legs, and with my face I squint, wrinkle my nose, and roll my lips.
I don't see these kinds of stims talked about much... anyone else do these too?
how did I not know #elliotlee is #audhd?
that's so amazing, I love seeing other #autistic and #adhd people thriving
and they're #nonbinary like me too!
(related, I want that shirt they have that says "boy" but the "o" is a heart and the "y" has the tail of the female symbol)

My 26 y/o daughter finally got to see a psychiatrist. This was an online video call appointment.
She asked about possibly being Autistic, given that she scored within the range on several psychometric tests. He said "you make good eye contact and speak well so you're not Autistic"
I can't even wrap my head around that statement. I mean, completely disregarding the fact that "makes eye contact" is not a reliable indicator because of masking... how do you assess eye contact on a fucking VIDEO CALL?
On the plus side, she did finally get diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed meds, and those are already having a positive impact.
Still, though, I can't get over the sheer idiocy of that statement.
If you'd like to buy Epic YA #Fantasy locally this #Pride, my trilogy has #nonbinary, aro-ace & #AuDHD main chars and is at online stores owned by these countries
Tradition ensures survival, but Tarlah's first nonbinary heir will defy it so their continent can live. In an age of abductions & betrayal, to end a cycle of war; Ruarnon will risk everything for peace

Does anybody have any good resources (books, videos, articles etc) on people pleasing, trauma, and avoidant behaviours resulting from such?
Specifically looking for resources about better understanding and working through these things in oneself (as opposed to explainations of what they are)
I’ve made a personal decision that I’m always going to be honest with people because I am so over playing games of trying to guess what someone is thinking.
pop quiz! guess the context of this quote:
" ... a performative juggling act, an act of camouflage, of deflection, of concealing your true preferences, opinions and thoughts. Blending in, rendering yourself invisible increases your odds of leading a functional life."
answer in next ...
Not sure if this is an AuDHD thing but I have a work-related superpower.
When I'm on a meeting and when two parties are talking past each other, I interrupt the and put whatever it is in terms that both sides understand.
I get so frustrated when it is obvious to me but they don't get it.
Anyway, does anyone else do that? Does anybody else put the train back on the track primarily because it is annoying to hear people go back and forth and back and forth and not getting anywhere?
Your mobile device /laptop/ smart home/ car, knows you better than you know yourself.
In forensics the term every touch leaves a trace is a core tenet of the profession this is very definitely extra true for the digital landscape !
The absence of information is ALSO important if there is no traces for a week then the device wasn’t turned on why wasn’t it turned on, and these days phones aren’t really off, (read transit passes) when you turn off your device you don’t automatically clear the state !! Memory is saved and then restored to increase boot speed..
Know your digital footprint !

@actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I was just talking to a neurodivergent friend of mine. We both realized we had a history of chronic otitis media as kids... I did some digging and apparently there's been some research on it that suggests a link between chronic recurring otitis media and hyperactivity, ADHD and/or Autism, which is intriguing to me.
I'm curious about the community here and your experiences. Did you have recurring ear infections as a kid?
One thing even people who know me don't understand about my existence is how rarely I actually speak with anyone, in person and at length. Maybe twice a week, at most, and that's only because I make an effort to do so. There's no organic way for it to happen for me. If I didn't put in the effort, I would go for weeks, even months, without any appreciable, in person, human contact.
It kinda sucks, to be honest.
I wore my purple sequin pants today. First time wearing them out in public. They are very comfy & breezy so are quite good for warmer weather.
When you find out you’re autistic later in life, all of a sudden so many things make sense, but you still have all of this conditioning from a lifetime of believing that you were broken, or terrible at being a person, or all sorts of stories that we told ourselves.
