Michele HSpent the final day (yesterday) of my vacation making some zip pouches. These 12 are for a local <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/lgbtq?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lgbtq</a> group who provide free clothing to all, but specialize in serving trans teens and adults. They will use the bags to create makeup kits for their clients. As I finish new pouches in the future, the proceeds from them will be used to support other charities and mutual aid. Your actions with employees, colleagues, family, friends, and neighbors all matter. Not just directly, but in a six degrees of separation way. On this International Day of Trans Visibility, what we need is for allies to be visible. Here are some ways you can be a visible ally: * Remember the underground railway? Strategically places stickers, signs, buttons all can show you are an ally. Since more bigots don’tn recognize an ally flag, you can use those. You don’t need to paint a trans flag on the front of your house, but it’s an option! * Practice “echoing” language. Don’t want to share pronouns? That’s fine. But why do you need to know others? Try echoing the language they use. If someone says, “my kid is in college”, say “what college are they at?”…. if you say, “do you have any kids?” and they say “yes, one.”.. Say, “where are they now?”. … if they mention their partner, try “what does your partner do?”. * If you “mess up” pronouns, correct yourself and move on. * Talk amongst yourselves. Discussing trans and non-binary issues among small groups of friends is a positive way to influence others and to help grow allies. The more connected people feel to the queer community, the more allies there will be. * Groups like PFLAG have regular ally and education sessions virtually across the country where you and your friends can learn allyship. It was a call to attention. Some of the responses I got suggested that my post was misleading or blowing this way out of proportion. I assure you that neither of these are true. Don't focus so much on the idea that <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cloudflare" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#cloudflare</a> has access to passwords that come through their systems. In better times I'd welcome such an effort. At least they didn't chastize someone who really loved a silly movie, like Netflix did long ago. Instead, focus on the fact that they are a company based in the United States meaning they are subject to the whim of a fascist regime that is proving it doesn't care about the letter of the law. I'm not concerned about my password security for the sites that transit their service. I am a cishet middle class white male. I'm pretty low on the target list. *** I AM concerned about the password security for at risk populations who access sites crucial for them, that transit through cloudflare. I'm concerned about the LGBTQIA+ population in the United States. I'm concerned about pregnant women. I'm concerned about Jews, and Muslims, and Bhuddists, and everyone else who doesn't fit into the narrow worldview of the fascist reich that is the republican party and their bootlickers. The FBI, Justice Department, State Department, etc no longer serve the american people. They serve an emperor.
